Rumors are swirling around the possibility of a colossal "Avengers vs. X-Men" event being adapted for the big screen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). These speculations have gained momentum following Marvel Studios’ acquisition of full rights to all Marvel comic characters, creating a prime opportunity to bring this iconic crossover storyline to life.
As the development of X-Men films is currently underway, fans and insiders alike are speculating that mutants could play a crucial role in the upcoming "Avengers 5," which is projected to be released in the next few years.
Marvel Studios' President, Kevin Feige, recently fueled these rumors by suggesting that this crossover is a real possibility in the future of the MCU.
"The exciting thing is that everything is possible now," Feige remarked. "When we were working on Civil War or even Infinity War, there were dozens of characters we had to eliminate from the story because we didn’t have access to them. Now, when choosing storylines, we don’t have to do that anymore because we have access to everyone."
In the Marvel comic books, the "Avengers vs. X-Men" storyline begins with the approach of the Phoenix Force, a cosmic entity of immense power, toward Earth. While the Avengers perceive this force as a dire threat, the X-Men believe it could be the key to the survival of the mutant race.
This difference in perspective leads to a massive conflict between the two most powerful superhero teams in the Marvel universe, culminating in epic battles that significantly alter the status quo of their world.
With the multiverse concept now firmly established in the MCU's latest phase, the introduction of various X-Men teams from alternate realities could serve as a bridge to bring "Avengers vs. X-Men" to the big screen.
The multiverse presents the possibility of multiple versions of the X-Men, from the classic comic book team to modern adaptations, facing off against the Avengers.
If these rumors prove to be accurate and the project moves forward, "Avengers vs. X-Men" could become one of the biggest events in MCU history, with the potential to unite both longtime fans and newcomers.
While it remains a rumor at this stage, if this project does come to fruition, it is likely that the film would be released sometime after 2026, given the current MCU projects scheduled up until that year.
Although the wait may be long, it provides ample time to build a solid storyline foundation and deliver a showdown that could be unforgettable on the big screen.
