Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have shared a remarkable journey together, filled with love, challenges, and growth. As we celebrate their second wedding anniversary on July 16, let's reflect on the insights and revelations from Lopez's Prime Video documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told.

This documentary offers an intimate look at their relationship, revealing the depth of their connection and the resilience they've shown through the years.

A Love Story Unveiled

In The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Jennifer Lopez provides fans with a behind-the-scenes look at her ambitious cinematic project, This Is Me Now: A Love Story.

The documentary, which premiered in February, includes candid interviews with Lopez's inner circle, collaborators, and, of course, Ben Affleck. Despite initial resistance from her team, Lopez pursued her vision to create a project that delves into her love story with Affleck.

Lopez acknowledges that Affleck has never been one to openly share his private life. However, he supports her artistic expression wholeheartedly.

"I don’t think he’s very comfortable with me doing all of this, but he loves me, he knows I’m an artist, and he’s going to support me in every way he can," Lopez,, says in the documentary.

"Jen is really inspired by this experience, which is how artists do their work. They get inspired, their personal life, it moves you."

The Journey to Self-Love

At the documentary's conclusion, Affleck realizes that the project was not solely about him but about Lopez's journey to self-love.

He reflects, "I don't really love being in the making-of documentary about my personal life, which is why I'm relieved that it seems like I might be in this, but I'm not really. The movie wasn't about me. It was about the ability to love yourself, and that love story is a lot harder to find than Prince Charming."

Lopez and Affleck's love story spans decades, marked by their breakup in 2004, just three days before their planned wedding.

Despite their separation, Lopez reveals, "We’re totally different people now [yet] we’re the same and we have the same love. 100%. I’d never fallen out of love with you. I had just put it over here."

Belief and Support

Throughout the documentary, Lopez becomes emotional as she describes how Affleck's belief in her has profoundly impacted her self-perception. "What he said and what he saw in me and what he made me believe about myself only comes from love.

Because nobody else could’ve made me see that about myself," Lopez says in tears. The documentary delves into the emotional toll their breakup took on Lopez.

"For all those years, it was really hard because I didn’t just feel like I lost the love of my life. I felt like I lost the best friend that I ever had and I couldn’t talk about it for so many years. That was the hardest part."

Affleck provides insight into Lopez's childhood trauma, explaining how it has influenced her. He says, "We are kind of learning more and more; it doesn’t have to be the kind of trauma where you’re locked in a basement for a year to leave wounds on you. In fact, they’re deceptive when they’re harder to pin down."

Reflecting on their 2004 split, Affleck attributes it to the intense scrutiny around their private life. Lopez shares, "We bought a Bentley and drove around town with it. It’s like, ‘Yeah, take pictures of us.’ It wasn’t that. We were just celebrating our lives and our love."

When they reunited, Affleck initially resisted the idea of their relationship being under the spotlight again but eventually realized the need for compromise.

Forgiveness and Moving Forward

In a poignant interview, Affleck asks Lopez if she has found forgiveness for him. "When I first read the script, it looked like the inciting incident that causes all this pain down the road is our breakup," Affleck says.

"I thought, ‘Wow. Nobody did anything wrong. It was mutual.' I think for us to move on from that, we have to kind of forgive it. Forgive each other. Do you forgive me?" The documentary later reveals Lopez's heartfelt response: "I’ve forgiven you all the way. I think I need to forgive myself on some things."

The Greatest Love Story Never Told offers a profound and intimate look at Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's relationship. It highlights their journey through love, loss, and rediscovery, showcasing the strength of their bond and the importance of self-love and forgiveness.

As we celebrate their second wedding anniversary, we are reminded of the resilience and depth of their love story, which continues to inspire fans around the world.
