Gender equality remains a hot topic in Hollywood, with many senior actresses, like Sharon Stone, bringing attention to the ongoing disparities. At 65, Stone has been vocal about the significant pay gap she experienced in the film "Basic Instinct" compared to her male co-star, Michael Douglas. Despite her iconic role, the financial disparity was glaring.

Sharon Stone revealed the shocking pay difference between her and Michael Douglas during the filming of "Basic Instinct." While Douglas received a hefty $14 million, Stone was paid a mere $500,000, highlighting a pay gap that was 28 times more.

"Michael Douglas got $14 million (Rp 226.8 billion)," Stone disclosed at a Women Cancer Research Fund’s fundraising event. This revelation underscores the persistent issue of unequal pay in the industry, even for actresses with significant roles and contributions to a film's success.

Stone also recounted the disrespect she faced from a line producer during the filming of "Basic Instinct." The producer refused to call her by her name, instead referring to her as "Karen" throughout the shoot.

"Even at the Governor's Ball (post-Oscar party), he continued to call me Karen, and I kept that insult inside me," Stone revealed.

The aftermath of her nude scene in "Basic Instinct" brought more personal turmoil for Stone. In 2003, she lost custody of her adopted son, Roan, which she attributed to the judge's reaction to her role in the film. This decision left her heartbroken and made her question her capabilities as a parent.

Stone's financial struggles didn't end there. Recently, she opened up about losing nearly half of her wealth due to the banking crisis. While she didn't specify the exact cause, it is widely believed that the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank significantly impacted her finances, resulting in a loss of approximately Rp 937 billion.

"Technically, I am an idiot, but I can write a check. And right now, it takes courage because I know what happened. I just lost half my money due to a banking issue, and that doesn't mean I can't be here (to donate)," Stone said tearfully.

Sharon Stone's experiences shed light on the broader issue of gender equality in Hollywood. Despite her talent and iconic status, she faced significant pay disparities, disrespect on set, and personal losses linked to her professional work. Her story is a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for equality in the industry.

The revelations made by Stone and other actresses underscore the need for systemic changes in Hollywood. Pay equity, respect on set, and support for actresses beyond their on-screen roles are crucial for fostering a more inclusive and fair industry.
