Jonathan Majors recently expressed his disappointment over Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) decision to introduce a new villain, Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., which effectively sidelines Majors’ role as Kang the Conqueror.
In an interview, Majors admitted to feeling heartbroken about the development but acknowledged Downey Jr.’s appeal, saying, “I love him, I love Kang. But Doctor Doom is cool.”

Majors’ departure from the MCU followed his conviction for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, which led to his dismissal from the role of Kang, a central character in The Multiverse Saga. He compared his situation to those of Robert Downey Jr. and Ezra Miller, who have also faced legal issues.
“I think it’s fair that Downey was met with patience, curiosity, and love, and Miller also got the same treatment,” Majors said, feeling that he didn’t receive the same opportunity for a comeback.

Downey Jr. faced multiple arrests for drug-related offenses from 1996 to 2001 and went through rehabilitation. His major comeback came with the role of Tony Stark in Iron Man (2008), which launched him into stardom and cemented his place in the MCU until his departure in Avengers: Endgame (2019). Despite his past issues, Downey Jr. was warmly welcomed back into the industry.
Ezra Miller, who has faced various controversies including robbery and harassment, still starred in The Flash (2023) amidst ongoing legal troubles. Miller’s career has been less visible since then, with no new film projects announced.
Majors stated he remains open to returning to the MCU as Kang if given the chance, saying, “As Kang? Of course. I love him.
I love Kang. If that’s what fans want, if that’s what Marvel wants, let’s go.” Despite his legal troubles, Majors has secured a new role in the thriller Merciless, signaling his ongoing presence in the industry.
Jonathan Majors’ career shift highlights the complexities of the entertainment industry’s response to personal controversies and legal issues. While Majors remains hopeful for a return to the MCU, the industry’s treatment of different individuals based on their past actions continues to spark discussion.
