Emily Armstrong Joins Linkin Park: A New Era for the Band with "The Emptiness Machine" and Upcoming Tour

Linkin Park is once again making waves in the music world, seven years after the tragic death of their beloved frontman, Chester Bennington.

With the addition of Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara as the new co-vocalist, the band has not only released new music but also announced a much-anticipated tour. This significant development has fans eager to see how the band will evolve with its fresh lineup.

Who is Emily Armstrong?

Emily Armstrong, known for her powerhouse vocals as the lead singer of Dead Sara, has officially joined Linkin Park as their new co-vocalist. Her entrance into the band comes as a monumental shift, filling a void left by Chester Bennington.

While stepping into Bennington's shoes is no small task, Armstrong has embraced the challenge with grace and humility.

In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Armstrong expressed her feelings about taking on this role. "It's never a thought where it's like I need to make this song my own," she said.

"It's like, 'How do I make this song have the same impact, as much as possible, with my voice?'" Her statement reflects her respect for the band's legacy and her desire to honor Bennington’s memory while bringing her own unique voice to the table.

The Release of "The Emptiness Machine"

Linkin Park's return to the spotlight was marked by the release of their new single, "The Emptiness Machine" on September 5. The song is part of their upcoming album, "From Zero," which is set to drop on November 15.

Fans were thrilled to hear Armstrong’s voice blend seamlessly with longtime member Mike Shinoda, creating a fresh yet familiar sound that captures the essence of the band's iconic style.

In addition to their new music, the band recently released "Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023)," a compilation of their greatest hits, further solidifying their enduring influence on the rock genre.

Honoring Chester Bennington's Legacy

As the band steps into this new phase, they remain deeply connected to Chester Bennington’s legacy. During the Los Angeles concert, Shinoda introduced Armstrong to the audience, saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, that is Emily Armstrong, make some noise."

The introduction was followed by the performance of their new single and many of the band’s iconic hits, including "Somewhere I Belong," "Numb," "Faint," "Bleed It Out," "One Step Closer," "What I've Done," and "In the End."

Armstrong’s performance received praise from both fans and critics, with many remarking on her ability to bring something new to the band's sound while respecting its history.

During the performance of "Crawling," a track famously sung by Bennington, Shinoda addressed the crowd, reminding them of the communal spirit that has always been central to Linkin Park’s live shows. "In the role of Chester Bennington this afternoon is each of you," he told the audience, urging them to sing along.

Shinoda has been candid about the emotions involved in finding a new co-vocalist for the band. In his interview with Zane Lowe, he reflected on the process of bringing Armstrong into the fold.

“When I started to hear Emily’s voice on things, it was like the first time that my brain would accept it as a Linkin Park song. And then all of a sudden we’re here and it’s very real, and it’s really big.”

Emily Armstrong’s Future with Linkin Park

As Linkin Park moves forward, the chemistry between Armstrong, Brittain, and the original band members has been a key factor in their renewed sense of purpose. "There was a huge leap of faith that we had to say, 'I think she's the one,'" Shinoda remarked during the interview, underscoring the band's confidence in their new vocalist.

Armstrong, for her part, is keenly aware of the emotional weight that comes with stepping into this role. "Obviously on the side of like the feelings and the emotions of it, I would love to do him [Bennington] proud," she shared. Her approach to singing Bennington’s songs has been one of respect and dedication to preserving the impact of the original performances.

With the release of "From Zero" and the upcoming tour, Armstrong has the opportunity to not only honor Bennington's legacy but also to establish herself as an integral part of Linkin Park’s future.
