Marvel fans around the globe were recently treated to a pleasant surprise when Chris Evans reprised his role as Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, in a cameo appearance for Deadpool & Wolverine.

This unexpected return has reignited discussions about Evans’ involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and caught the attention of both fans and former co-stars, including Jessica Alba. Alba, who starred alongside Evans in Fantastic Four (2005), shared her thoughts on his return and even hinted at her own desire to rejoin the MCU.

This article delves into Evans' surprise cameo, the collaboration between Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Reynolds, and Alba’s excitement for a potential Marvel comeback.

Chris Evans and Jessica Alba

Back in 2005, Chris Evans and Jessica Alba played siblings Johnny and Susan Storm in Fantastic Four, directed by Tim Story. Evans embodied the fiery, reckless character of Johnny Storm, while Alba took on the role of his more responsible sister, Susan Storm.

Although the movie and its 2007 sequel didn’t perform well at the box office and received mixed reviews, the chemistry between the two stars was undeniable. However, the franchise failed to ignite the interest of fans and critics alike.

Fast forward to today, Chris Evans’ cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine not only surprised his fans but also his former co-star, Jessica Alba. In a recent interview with Collider, Alba expressed her admiration for Evans’ performance and her own desire to return to the MCU after nearly 20 years away from the superhero spotlight.

Jessica Alba’s Desire to Rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe

In her Collider interview, Alba reminisced about her time in the Fantastic Four franchise, acknowledging that it had been two decades since she last stepped into the Marvel universe. “He’s a legend,” she said of Evans, while also reflecting on her love for working with Marvel.

“It’s been 20 years, such a long time ago. I loved working on Marvel films, and I’m a huge Disney fan. I still watch all the films, and my kids do too. Of course, I’d love to be part of that universe again anytime.”

Alba’s statements during her promotional tour for the second season of Honest Renovations sparked excitement among fans who would love to see her return to the MCU.

With the multiverse now being a core part of Marvel’s storytelling, there are endless possibilities for both new and old characters to make appearances across various films.

Behind the Scenes: Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy Secured Evans’ Cameo

While Evans’ cameo as the Human Torch was a surprise to fans, it was the result of careful planning and collaboration between Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy and lead actor Ryan Reynolds.

In a recent interview, Levy revealed how they convinced Evans to make his cameo appearance. He noted that Evans had already made a brief but memorable cameo in Free Guy, a film in which Reynolds also starred.

“Ryan and I reached out to Chris,” Levy said. “Chris had done a quick and brilliant cameo for us in Free Guy. And then Ryan, in less than 10 minutes, wrote the end credits button and one of the dirtiest monologues in film history. I sent it to Chris, and he replied, ‘If that’s in the movie, I’m in the movie.’”

Levy emphasized that there was never any debate about removing Evans’ cameo or cutting the scene. “From that moment, we knew it was going to happen,” he added. “Chris came in and did it flawlessly. He memorized the lines and nailed it in just two takes.”

Future Possibilities: Could We See More Cameos?

With the MCU’s expanding multiverse, the opportunity for more surprising cameos and character returns is wide open. Chris Evans’ appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine has reignited speculation about the return of other beloved characters, particularly those from previous Marvel iterations.

Jessica Alba’s comments further fuel the idea that Marvel could potentially revisit Fantastic Four characters in future MCU projects. While the MCU is preparing to launch its own Fantastic Four reboot, fans are still intrigued by the possibility of seeing actors from the original franchise make cameo appearances or even play significant roles in upcoming films.
