Elizabeth Debicki Wins Emmy Award for Princess Diana Role in The Crown

Elizabeth Debicki has achieved a significant milestone in her acting career, securing her first Emmy Award for her outstanding portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown

The 33-year-old actress, who took on the role of the iconic Princess of Wales in the final two seasons of the popular Netflix drama, won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the 76th Emmy Awards held on Monday, September 16.

In her acceptance speech, Debicki expressed deep gratitude for being entrusted with the responsibility of portraying the late Princess Diana. 

"Playing this role has been incredibly special to me. It was a gift. Thank you so much," Debicki said, as quoted by People magazine on Monday, September 16. Her words reflected the profound connection she felt to the role and the significance it held for her personally and professionally.

The Crown's Numerous Nominations

Debicki’s victory was one of the 18 nominations received by The Crown at this year’s Emmy Awards, underscoring the series’ continued dominance in the awards circuit.

In addition to Debicki's win, The Crown was also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor (for Dominic West), and Outstanding Lead Actress (for Imelda Staunton). The show, now in its final seasons, has been widely praised for its depiction of the British royal family, particularly during Princess Diana’s era.

Reflecting on her time with the show, Debicki commented that the Emmy win marked the perfect conclusion to a long and often challenging journey. 

"I'm thrilled that so many of us from The Crown were nominated. It's truly an incredible honor," she remarked. The French-born actress went on to describe the emotional and professional toll of working on such a large-scale production. 

"This series has been running for a long time. My fellow cast members and I have been involved in it for nearly three years, from preparation to shooting and then promoting the show. It’s been a beautiful, albeit challenging, chapter in our lives," she added.
