Dave Bautista, renowned for his role as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has expressed his desire to see a reunion of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast within the DC Universe.

This wish stems from the conclusion of the Guardians' journey in the MCU. Bautista is hopeful that James Gunn, the director of the Guardians trilogy and now CEO of DC Studios, can bring this reunion to life in the new DC Universe (DCU).

Bautista's Hopes for a DC Universe Reunion

In an interview with ComicBook, Bautista shared his enthusiasm for the possibility of reuniting with his Guardians co-stars within the DCU.

"I hope so. It feels like a goal I would love to achieve," Bautista stated. He elaborated on his previous collaborations with former Guardians cast members, including his role in the 2019 film Stuber alongside Karen Gillan and his upcoming project, The Killer's Game, featuring Pom Klementieff.

These experiences have fueled his desire to work again with Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana outside the MCU.

Bautista's comments highlight his eagerness to extend his collaborative efforts beyond the MCU.

"I’ve worked on other projects outside of Guardians with Karen Gillan, and now I’m doing a film with Pom," Bautista said. "I would also love to work with Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana outside of the Marvel Universe."

This sentiment underscores his readiness to explore new opportunities within the DC Universe, provided the roles are a good fit.

James Gunn's Role in the Potential Reunion

Bautista expressed confidence in James Gunn's ability to facilitate this reunion, given Gunn's new role at DC Studios.

"Of course. As I’ve said before, I’m very open to it. I think what’s important is that it has to be the right role," Bautista noted.

He emphasized his strong admiration for Gunn and his willingness to do whatever it takes to collaborate with him again.

In the MCU, Bautista's character, Drax the Destroyer, is a pivotal member of the Guardians team, which initially included Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Nebula (Karen Gillan). Mantis (Pom Klementieff) joined the team in the second film.

The Guardians have appeared in three films: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023), all of which were written and directed by James Gunn.

The Future of the DC Universe

As the MCU phase for the original Guardians cast concludes with Vol. 3, the transition to the DC Universe marks a new chapter.

James Gunn, who has left the MCU, is now at the helm of DC Studios with Peter Safran. Their mission is to revamp the DCEU into a fresh DC Universe, with Superman set to be the first film under this new banner, scheduled for release in July 2025.

Dave Bautista's openness to working within the DC Universe reflects his enthusiasm for new creative opportunities and his respect for James Gunn. As the DC Universe evolves, fans may yet see the beloved Guardians cast members reunite in a new and exciting context.
