Universal Pictures is set to produce another biopic about the life of pop icon Britney Spears, based on her memoir "The Woman in Me," which was published on October 24, 2023. The studio secured the rights to the memoir in a competitive bid, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Jon M. Chu, known for his work on films like "Crazy Rich Asians" (2018), "In the Heights" (2021), and the upcoming "Wicked" (2024), has been tapped to direct the biopic. The production will also feature Marc Platt as the producer, whose credits include "La La Land" (2016) and "The Trial of the Chicago 7" (2020).

Britney Spears confirmed the biopic project herself, hinting at a "secret project" she is working on with Marc Platt. In a tweet on August 2, she expressed her excitement about the collaboration: "Happy to share with my fans that I'm working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt," Spears tweeted. "He's always made my favorite movies. Stay tuned."

"The Woman in Me" is a 275-page memoir by Britney Spears, released on October 24, 2023. The book has been a commercial success, selling 1.1 million copies in its first week in the United States, including print, presale, e-book, and audiobook formats. By January 2024, it had sold over 2 million copies in the U.S. and around 3 million copies globally. The memoir has been translated into 26 languages, with the audiobook narrated by actress Michelle Williams.

Spears' memoir delves into her personal and professional life, revealing touching and previously undisclosed stories. It covers her career, family, conservatorship, and romantic relationships, including a highly publicized relationship with Justin Timberlake that stirred significant attention on social media.

With the success of her memoir and the involvement of high-profile talents like Jon M. Chu and Marc Platt, anticipation for the Britney Spears biopic is building. The film promises to offer an in-depth look at the life of one of pop music's most iconic figures, exploring the triumphs and tribulations that have shaped her journey.
