Blake Lively
recently lifted the veil on a behind-the-scenes conflict that occurred during the production of her upcoming film 'It Ends with Us'. In an exclusive interview with Hits Radio UK, Lively hinted at a moment in the film’s development that she’s “not supposed” to discuss, shedding light on a creative decision that nearly altered the movie’s soundtrack.

During the interview, the conversation steered towards the inclusion of Lana Del Rey’s haunting track “Cherry” in the film’s soundtrack. The interviewer expressed their appreciation for the song’s placement within a pivotal scene.

However, Lively revealed that not everyone involved in the production shared the same sentiment. In fact, some unnamed individuals were so concerned about the song’s impact that they pushed for its removal from the final cut.

“They begged me to take that song out of the movie,” Lively confessed, aligning herself with the interviewer’s opinion while disclosing the pressure she faced from certain quarters. With a playful eye roll, she added, “I’m not supposed to be talking about this.”

The resistance to keeping “Cherry” in the film stemmed from its emotional intensity. Lively explained that the song was considered "too charged and heavy" for the moment in the story where it was featured. At that point in the film, the character Ryle, portrayed by Justin Baldoni, is still in a relatively positive relationship. The concern was that the song might introduce a level of tension and foreboding that wasn’t yet appropriate for the narrative.

“They felt like it was too charged and heavy, and things are still good with Ryle at that point,” Lively elaborated.

“You don’t want to feel that charge. The moment Atlas enters, things are charged and heavy! There’s conflict, there’s pain, there’s turmoil, there’s tension because you’re like, ‘Oh my god, my soulmate, the one that got away in my life, this person who’s haunting me and everything I do and everywhere I go is here now, and we still have that connection".

Lively further delved into the emotional complexity that drives the film’s narrative, particularly the love triangle involving her character.

She pointed out that the presence of Atlas, a figure from the past who reenters the protagonist’s life, brings about a whirlwind of emotions. The arrival of this character stirs up unresolved feelings, adding layers of conflict and tension to the story.

“You can be deeply in love with this person,” Lively continued, referring to the character’s relationship with Ryle, “but this person [Atlas] comes in, and you’re like…your insides are gonna be a mess. So, that’s why.”

The film It Ends with Us, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, has not been without its share of off-screen drama. Justin Baldoni, who not only stars as Ryle but also directs the film, has been at the center of some of the controversy.

While specific details about the issues involving Baldoni remain under wraps, it’s clear that the film’s production has had its share of challenges, with creative differences and intense emotions playing a significant role.

As It Ends with Us gears up for its release, fans are eagerly anticipating how these behind-the-scenes tensions will translate to the screen. Blake Lively’s candid revelations offer a glimpse into the creative struggles and decisions that shaped the film.

Despite the pressure to conform, Lively’s commitment to the emotional depth of the story seems to have prevailed, ensuring that the film retains its powerful, charged moments—including the controversial inclusion of Lana Del Rey’s “Cherry.” Whether these creative choices will resonate with audiences remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: It Ends with Us promises to be a film that doesn’t shy away from emotional complexity.
