Matt Damon shared that he stopped using the F-slur for gay people after a conversation with his daughter, who gave him a thorough explanation on why it was offensive. He mentioned that this slur was commonly used when he was a child, though in a different context.

A few months ago, he made a joke using the word, and his daughter responded with a detailed explanation on why it was inappropriate, even leaving the table in protest. Damon tried to explain that it was just a joke and referenced his use of the word in the movie "Stuck on You."

Later, Damon clarified his story, emphasizing that he had never used the F-slur in his personal life and that his conversation with his daughter wasn't a personal epiphany. He explained that he was trying to illustrate to his daughter how much progress had been made since his childhood, when he often heard the slur without understanding its meaning.

He told her that the word was used casually back then and was even part of a movie dialogue as recently as 2003. His daughter was shocked that it had ever been used so thoughtlessly.

Damon expressed his pride in his daughter's articulate argument about the harm the word causes to the LGBTQ+ community, no matter how normalized it once was. He fully agreed with her and was thrilled by her passion and commitment to social justice. This experience highlighted for him the importance of understanding the impact of words and the need for active effort in combating prejudice.
